China Wuqiao International Circus Festival (CWICF), named after Wuqiao County and launched in 1987, is held every two years, generally in the last week of October or the first week of November.

It is jointly sponsored and organized by the Cultural Ministry of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Hebei Province.

Eleven of the gala were held in succession. More than 400 programs from about 40 countries and regions have taken part in the festivals since 1987.

The Gold Lion Prize awarded at the CWICF is one of the highest prizes in the world circus circle.

With the longest history and the largest scale in China, the CWICF has become one of the three major international circus festivals in the world, along with Festival International du Circus de Monte Carlo and Festival Mondial du Circus de Demain.

Wuqiao has also become one of the world’s three most famous circus competitive arenas.
